(1) Location & Access
- Akasaka and Roppongi are located in the northern section of Minato Ward, and are flanked by the Toranomon and Aoyama areas.
- Transport was inconvenient for some of the areas in this district, but the recent opening of the Oedo and Namboku subway lines has helped to improve the situation.

(2) Overview
Traditionally, this area held numerous restaurants and was chiefly an entertainment district. Yet the completion of the Ark Hills building in 1986 led to many corporations setting up offices in the area, adding to its prestige as an office district. Recently, as can be seen with Roppongi Hills, many large-scale buildings have been built in the area.

With the benefit of being adjacent to the Aoyama area, which is a popular gathering spot for young people, many foreign corporations and relatively new IT companies seeking a creative environment have taken up tenancy in the area. On the other hand, there are few traditional domestic manufacturers, financial institutions and public organizations, which require easy access to suburban areas. This is because the main means of transportation in the area is the subway, being located in the center of the JR Yamanote Line loop.

The "Tokyo Midtown" project, a combined large-scale development project that includes offices, residential buildings and hotels, has completed in 2007.

Many foreign embassies are located in the area, including the American Embassy, as well as many luxury apartments targeting foreign residents, especially near the Aoyama area. Akasaka is known as one of the "3A" districts, together with Aoyama and Azabu, being one of the favorite residential areas for well-heeled foreign expats.
