(1) Location & Access
- The Toranomon and Atago areas are located on the southern side of the administrative district, Kasumigaseki.
- Multiple subway lines run through the area east to west and north to south, including the Ginza, Hibiya and Namboku Lines.

(2) Overview
The Toranomon/Atago area is a long-standing office district adjacent to the Kasumigaseki administrative district. Buildings of various sizes exist around the Toranomon subway station, many of which are relatively old. Due to the area's proximity to the administrative district, many of the tenants are auxiliary organizations of the government or nonprofit corporations. Kasumigaseki Common Gate was completed in October 2007 in a block of the Kasumigaseki district adjacent to this area across from the Toranomon Crossing through public-private joint funding.

Currently, a redevelopment project is in progress that covers an area across Toranomon, Nishi-Shimbashi and Shimbashi, starting from the vicinity of the Toranomon Crossing. This project is said to have first originated with General Douglas MacArthur, the supreme commander of the Allied Occupation forces in Japan after the Second World War. When it is completed, a route extending to the sea through the Shiodome district and six buildings on the site will have been refurbished.

Many large-scale buildings were built in the area around the Kamiyacho subway station during the 1990s, turning it into a business district. Numerous foreign corporations have offices in the area.
