Midland Square
(2) Overview
Nagoya, located in between Tokyo and Osaka, is a commercial and industrial city housing various facets of industrial technology. It is known for the large number of Toyota-related corporations in the area. The locally-based manufacturing businesses are doing well, and Nagoya's buoyant economy stands out among the various regional cities, most of which are suffering from increasing economic disparities with Tokyo.
The main office areas are the Marunouchi area, which is Nagoya's administrative district, the Sakae area, and the area around Nagoya Station. The Sakae area is a long-standing office area, as well as Nagoya's central commercial district, but the recent construction of skyscrapers around Nagoya Station is causing a shift in the balance between the two areas. Toyota will be relocating part of its headquarters facilities from Tokyo to Midland Square, a development located in front of Nagoya Station and completed in October 2006.
